This week we are moving into the layers of the earth. We will discuss 4 main layers the crust, mantle, outer core and inner core. The students will be working on creating a museum tour that will take you on a journey through the earth's layers. Be sure to check out the earth science units page for more content information!
This week we will wrap up the rock cycle. Students will continue to study about igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic rocks and how one rock can change into another rock. The rock cycle CD project which we started in class today is due on Friday. I will post some samples of prior CD's on my website mskempson.weebly.com There is a rock cycle quiz on Friday.
We are starting to get more in depth as it relates to density. Students should be able to explain what density is and how to calculate density. We are also talking about igneous rocks. They will have a quiz on igneous rocks on Friday. Progress reports are going out on Monday, 8/22/16, so be sure to review them with your children. Be sure to check out the unit on Minerals and Rocks to help you study!
This week we talked about minerals, their characteristics and their properties (how to identify a mineral). Please make sure you use this website as a way to study the material. There will be a quiz on Tuesday 8/16/16 covering minerals. Next week we will start on rocks and the rock cycle.
We have been working on completing our unit on waves, currents and tides. Please be sure to look at each section under earth science units for additional help, videos and things to assist you with your children and helping them study. We will have a quiz on Thursday.
Welcome back to the 2nd semester and a new year! We are now moving into how water helps shape and adds to earth's processes. We will start out with the ocean floor, water distribution and then move to the water cycle. Please check the page for notes and videos to help you and your students know what we are doing in class. I have added social media to help deliver the content. Please follow me at @msnkempson on Twitter, on Facebook at Ms. Kempson's Earth Science Page and also on YouTube.
This week we are going to finish up the Earth's Layers. We will have a quiz on Wednesday and a test on Friday. Students received a study guide on today that they can use to prepare for the test and quiz. Make sure to check out the resources available on the website and you can also follow me on Twitter @msnkempson
This week we will finish up what we have been learning as it relates to soil. There will be a quiz on Friday!
This week will be packed with information, although this is early release week the learning does not end. Tuesday we will have a quiz weathering and we will finish up erosion this week. Be sure to check out the information section under earth science units.
This week we will look deeper into weathering and erosion. Students have already learned that weathering is the breaking down of rock and erosion carries it away. Now we can look into the 2 types of weathering: mechanical (physical) and chemical and how they affect the surface of the earth. We will also look at how erosion changes the earth's surface.
